Sunday March 13, Fifth Sunday Of Lent: This woman was caught in the very act of committing adultery.

Gospel John 8:1-11

Jesus went to the Mount of Olives.  But early in the morning he arrived again in the temple area, and all the people started coming to him, and he sat down and taught them.  Then the scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman who had been caught in adultery and made her stand in the middle.  They said to him, “Teacher, this woman was caught in the very act of committing adultery.  Now in the law, Moses commanded us to stone such women.  So what do you say?”  They said this to test him, so that they could have some charge to bring against him.  Jesus bent down and began to write on the ground with his finger.  But when they continued asking him, he straightened up and said to them, “Let the one among you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.”  Again he bent down and wrote on the ground.  And in response, they went away one by one, beginning with the elders.  So he was left alone with the woman before him.  Then Jesus straightened up and said to her, “Woman, where are they?  Has no one condemned you?”  She replied, “No one, sir.”  Then Jesus said, “Neither do I condemn you.  Go, and from now on do not sin any more.”

The Catechism of the Catholic Church

1490    The movement of return to God, called conversion and repentance, entails sorrow for and abhorrence of sins committed, and the firm purpose of sinning no more in the future. Conversion touches the past and the future and is nourished by hope in God’s mercy

From “Great Crusade of Love” Testimony of Catalina Rivas (CL-88:1-3)

1) Next to Satan’s cave there is a crowd of souls that has difficulty in taking a definite step to enter the kingdom of hate forever. The difficulty they have is not really because the doorway is narrow, rather it is very wide. I am the one who blocks the entrance to prevent the eternal condemnation of so many of My creatures whom I love as I love Myself. If they have the liberty of proceeding in the race towards the entrance to condemnation, I have the power to dissuade their inclination to evil and make them less harmful to themselves. An ocean of souls presses together in front of that accursed door over which is written: eternal death! The demon calls, seduces, and drags. I shine and attract the misdirected souls, the candidates for condemnation.

2) Remember that no cross is glorious and that all of them wound in such a way that the spirit particularly, remains offended. I desire it. I desire it and do not trouble yourself because peace is My ultimate proof, and in losing peace you could offend Me more than before.

3) Always implore Me, do not tire. I am looking to see if you are ready for My Desire.

Each week we will be presenting a portion of the following Sunday’s readings, and linking it to relevant parts of the Catechism of the Catholic Church and messages from the Testimony of Catalina.  Pay special attention to the italicized underlined sections. This week we learn of the significance of Jesus’ baptism by John. We hope this is inspiring and educational. Any comments you have are certainly welcomed.
